    Tempo vs Sky Game Report – September 22, 2026

    The Toronto Tempo fell 97-85 to the Chicago Sky on Tuesday night, extending their losing streak to seven games with only one game left in their inaugural season.

    Toronto kept things close through the first half, heading into halftime tied 44-44, before another third-quarter meltdown completely changed the game.

    Let’s break down the good, the bad, and the outlook.

    The Good

    Laura Juškaitė and Isabelle Harrison both stepped up offensively, scoring 20+ points each.

    Harrison finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds for another double-double, with an impressive 17 of those points coming in the first half.

    Laura had 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc — on her birthday no less! She also added four assists and four steals. She just looks more comfortable out there every game, and continues to be one of my favourite stories from this inaugural season.

    And a quick shoutout to Julie Allemand, who quietly hit a pretty impressive milestone in this game. Her five assists against Chicago brought her to 171 on the season, setting a new single-season career high. Her previous best was 170 with the Sparks last year. Julie doesn’t always put up the flashiest numbers, but her ability to run the offence and get everyone involved has been huge for the Tempo all season.

    The Tempo as a whole shot a pretty wild 50% from three, going 13-of-26. Everything happening closer to the basket was a different story.

    Even after falling behind by as much as 22, Toronto didn’t give up. They won the fourth quarter 30-25 and closed the game on a 12-2 run.

    The Bad

    Ah yes, the third quarter. Our old friend.

    After heading into halftime tied at 44, Toronto was outscored 28-11 in the third. Chicago went on a 16-0 run during the quarter and suddenly what had been a very competitive game was basically out of reach.

    Turnovers certainly didn’t help. Toronto finished with 18, leading to 24 points for Chicago.

    The Sky also absolutely dominated inside, outscoring Toronto 54-28 in the paint. Toronto actually won the rebounding battle 40-35, but Chicago shot 52% overall compared to Toronto’s 39%.

    Harrison was fantastic in the first half, but after scoring 17 before halftime she managed only four points the rest of the way.

    Nyara Sabally also didn’t see the floor again, which continues to be a little strange after watching her play for Germany throughout the FIBA World Cup. She had been dealing with a calf injury before the break, so my assumption is that the Tempo simply don’t see much benefit in risking another injury this late in the season. But without anything official from the team, that’s just speculation.

    The Outlook

    And now things get weird.

    Toronto closes out its inaugural season on Thursday against the Connecticut Sun in what might be one of the strangest games of the WNBA season.

    Both teams are at the bottom of the draft lottery standings, and the outcome has some pretty significant implications. If Toronto loses, both teams will finish 11-33 and are expected to have equal lottery balls for the top draft position. If Toronto wins, Connecticut stays ahead of them in the lottery order.

    With JuJu Watkins widely projected as the top prospect in the 2027 WNBA Draft (assuming she enters) you can probably see where the tanking conversation comes from.

    But there’s another layer.

    Thursday will be the final game for the Connecticut Sun before the franchise relocates to Houston and becomes the Comets next season. It’s hard to imagine the players not wanting to send the Connecticut fans home with one final win.

    And based on what we’ve watched from Toronto all season, it’s equally hard to imagine this team intentionally rolling over for better draft odds.

    So… I guess we’re cheering for a competitive loss?

    Tempo vs Sky Game Report – June 7, 2026

    With the return of Isabelle Harrison the Toronto Tempo demolished the Chicago Sky 85-68 this past Sunday afternoon. Chicago appears to be fully imploding, while the Tempo gain some momentum and synergy.

    The Good

    Izzy is back! She had limited minutes back (only 17), but made the most of them; 14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal. Her impact was felt and the crowd loved it; Izzy hit a 3-pointer in the 4th that made the stadium explode! So good!

    Slim got downhill early and kept going! She was relentless driving to the hoop and ending the game with 25! She continues to be a menace on the court both offensively and defensively, and we are here for it.

    The Bad

    Kiki being injured is a major bummer. She appeared in some pre-game photos, but wasn’t on the bench. Hopefully this isn’t a bad sign. 3 pointers weren’t dropping today, finishing with an abysmal 18%. This could be a case of taking it too easy and not feeling any real pressure, but this needs to improve if we are going to be competitive!

    The Outlook

    Not to take away from the win, but Chicago isn’t having a great year. Jackson being injured hasn’t helped their chemistry, they look disjointed, and unmotivated. This game still showed us that the Tempo synergy is growing and we can succeed even when the 3’s aren’t dropping.

    Next up the Tempo take on the Connecticut Sun who are on a two game losing streak and are currently 2-10 for the season. Toronto will be aiming for a repeat win and can expect a tough battle in the paint with Brittany Griner and Aaliyah Edwards. It will be nice to see the Izzy – Sabally duo take them on.

    Tempo vs Sky Game Report – May 27, 2026

    Thanks to sensational performances from Nyara Sabally and Marina Mabrey, the Toronto Tempo snapped their two-game losing streak by winning an entertaining uptempo game against the Chicago Sky. 

    We break down the Good, Bad, and Outlook! 

    The Good

    In this win, no player shone brighter than Nyara Sabally who set a new career high of 29 points. While Nyara has previously shown her prowess in the pick and roll, she showed us the entire package tonight. She went at Kamilla Cardoso with speed and intention and, on multiple occasions, made Cardoso seem slow with her blowbys to the basket for layups. Sabally also contributed three 3-pointers and she shot them with confidence. 

    On the defensive end, Sabally continued to showcase her role as a disruptive presence, both at and away from the rim, capping the night off with two steals and two blocks.

    Her impact cannot be understated. Chicago only got on a run and closed the gap in the third quarter after Nyara sat on the bench. That was certainly no coincidence.

    In the fourth quarter, this became a close and tense game. On multiple occasions, the Sky threatened to erase the Tempo’s lead. This was when Marina Mabrey turned supernova and hit every big shot down the stretch to secure the win. Regardless of what the Sky did to her defensively, she would find space and hit another stepback or pullup jumper for 11 of her 24 points. Simply put, Mabrey put the team on her back and closed the game for the Tempo. 

    We also have to give a shout out to the return to form for sharpshooter Maria Conde. Conde had been struggling with her 3’s in past games, but she hit three of her 3’s tonight and her shot was looking a lot better. 

    Another shout out goes to Lexi Held (who unfortunately got waived by the Tempo on Tuesday) who played well in limited minutes. On one fast break play, Slim held the ball for too long and passed it to Milic for a poor baseline jumper that only hit rim. Held sprinted from the corner to get the offensive rebound and quickly dished it to Sabally who laid it up for two points. We were excited to see this Lexi Held for the Tempo, but it was sadly not meant to be. 

    Finally, we can’t forget the impact that Kiki Rice continues to have for this Tempo team. While she is only in her rookie season, she continues to be arguably the most reliable contributor whenever she is on the floor. In addition to scoring in double digits for seven straight games, we once again saw her instinct to never give up on plays and find ways to rectify mistakes by somehow getting the ball back with hustle and anticipation. 

    Overall, we saw the Tempo play like the Tempo again with much better 3-point shooting, crisper passing, and playing with more energy on both sides of the floor. 

    The Bad

    We also have to give the Sky credit. In this game, they also played very well. On multiple occasions, they got the Tempo on their heels using quick outlet passes from their veteran star backcourt, Skyler Diggins and Natasha Cloud, leading to quick transition buckets. When the Sky were at their best, Diggins and Cloud dictated the pace and this game could have been an even bigger nail biter had it not been for the heroics of Mabrey. 

    Furthermore, we want to give credit to Sydney Taylor. The undrafted rookie dropped 27 points on the Tempo and displayed a dizzying array of making difficult 3’s and driving the ball with athleticism and force. At certain points in the game, we thought we were watching Jackie Young out there in a Sky jersey. 

    Taylor and Aicha Coulibaly’s speed, quickness, and strength on drives and cuts really gave the Tempo’s defense issues. 

    The Outlook

    It’s hard not to be on a high after watching this entertaining game where the Tempo were challenged yet persevered.

    The Tempo host the Seattle Storm next. In their last matchup, the Storm bigs were able to get whatever look they wanted which led to big nights from Dom Malonga and Stef Dolson. The Tempo, however, successfully contained the offensive production of their guards and won their first matchup.

    This game, the Storm will be without Dom Malonga, but will have Awa Fam available. While we anticipate Fam and Dolson will be a handful, we like the Tempo’s chances in repeating the success they had before in limiting the damage from Seattle’s guards again. Slim and Rice will be key defensively to containing the cast of Natisha Hiedeman, Jade Melbourne, Flau’Jae Johnson, and Zia Cooke – any of whom can catch fire on offense in any given game.
